about sofie

Sofie Khan grew up storytelling in Chicago within an interfaith and multicultural family and leaned on making her uncles laugh to avoid kitchen duty. Her intersectional Queer/South Asian/Latinx identity transcends to her multidisciplinary background in writing, producing, directing and acting. Her wild experiences led her to write the sold-out, award-winning MexiStani: Growing Up Mexican and Pakistani in America. Through creative collaboration, her short film, Ground Nuts was the official selection at several U.S. and international film festivals and won awards for Best Comedy and nominations for Best Actress.

Sofie is proud to have been a participant of the LA Director’s Lab, Latinas Acting Up (LAU) Short Film Lab, Disruptors Fellowship Showcase as a performer, Warner Bros Discovery Access and CBS Pipeline programs, where her screenplay Ochoch led to winning $25,000 to donate to Carecen, a LA-based, non-profit providing immigration legal services.

She is currently in post-production for La Luz - a film she co-executive produced as part of the LAU Short Film Lab under the mentorship of Diana Maria Riva, Lisa Vidal and Linda Mendoza and is proud to have directed Don’t Ghost Me for Quetzalma Films along with Intern-al Affairs during this summer’s LA Director’s Lab. She is currently developing her next film, Mariachi Saree, merging traditions across identities with modern storytelling with a focus on personal growth.
